Also:

I'm also looking to sell some or all of my "in house" manufactured parts that I make in my shop to someone who might be like me and likes making things. This is one of those products. To buy my business is a large endeavor. But if you work a full time job or are retired and want to take on my manufactured parts or some of my manufactured parts let me know.

A nice sideline for an ambitious person.

Hinge Mounted Rear Deck lid Strut Kit

I had someone (Fiero Jon) who needed a rear deck lid strut kit but he had an engine brace that was in the way of installing my typical rear deck lid strut kit. He still had the factory springs but added a wing and his rear deck lid would not stay up.

So I pondered this and came up with a new design that mounts to the drivers side rear deck lid hinge.

To start this kit is only for those that still have the factory springs still in place. This for those that have a rear deck lid that will not stay up.

My opinion is that to use a higher pressure strut for those that have removed the factory springs might make the rear deck lid warp over time. It would be a lot of pressure pushing upward when the rear deck lid is closed. My other rear deck lid strut kits have the struts close to parallel to the deck lid when the deck lid is closed. I may look in the future at making a dual kit for those that have removed both factory springs.

Easy to install. You remove one bolt from the upper arm and bolt in the upper bracket.

You remove one nut from the lower arm and bolt in the lower bracket.

There are three threaded holes in the lower bracket which allow for variations in the length needed. Once the brackets are installed you choose the hole in the bottom bracket that fit the extended length of the strut the best.

It’s a great product. I like it much better than the traditional struts

There are 2 different types of rear deck lid hinges. Look at what type you have before ordering.

This is the thick lower type with the small opening below the center pin:

This is the thin lower type with the large opening below the center pin:

The kits differ because of the width of the lower arms on the hinges.

Clearance note: On Fiero Jon's he said his hit the factory spring slightly scratching the paint in one small area on the gas strut. But he said he would gladly put up with that to have a gas spring because of his engine brace and his lid not staying up. His was close to the vent and had no room to move outward any farther. This will vary on every car. Many should fit with no issues.

My suggestion:

Oil your hinge pins. They tend to rust and if the hinge pins rust too much they will seize and break. They are hardened steel and impossible to repair once they have seized and sheared off.
