2.8 V-6 Idler Pulley - Stop The Squeal!!

$99.95

My business is for sale:

http://rodneydickman.com/product_info.php?products_id=542

Also:

I'm also looking to sell some or all of my "in house" manufactured parts that I make in my shop to someone who might be like me and likes making things. This is one of those products. To buy my business is a large endeavor. But if you work a full time job or are retired and want to take on my manufactured parts or some of my manufactured parts let me know.

A nice sideline for an ambitious person.

So my plan now is to eventually take my business (mainly just my existing inventory) to Denver.   But: I also am not making parts anymore in my shop here. I am also not restocking many items as they run out. You may have noticed some of my parts are out of stock now. That trend will continue. Once in Denver I will continue to sell out my existing stock I have on hand and as I run out of things they become discontinued.

So my advice is buy it now because it may not be available in the future.

2.8 V-6 Fiero Idler Pulley Kit, Stop the squeal!!!

2.8 V-6 idler pulley kit

2.8 V-6 idler pulley kit installed

Stop that annoying belt squeal with this new idler puller and longer belt kit for the 2.8 liter V-6 Fiero!  Pontiac should have installed this in the factory!

This simple to bolt on and install idler pulley provides about a 75% increase in surface contact with the alternator pulley thus eliminating belt squeal. It also greatly increases the contact surface on the drive (crank) pulley. Easy to install in the car. Fits all V-6 Fieros. With or with out A/C. Just remove the two bolts, install the idler pulley assembly, reinstall and tighten the two original bolts. Install the new longer belt, tighten and you are done. No need to over tighten the belt now to stop that annoying squeal common on most all Fiero 2.8 liter V-6 engines. Carry your old belt for emergencies as the pulley will not be in the way if you need to reuse the original belt in an emergency.

This idea of using an idler pulley and a longer belt was first thought of by John Allen of Shelburne, MA. He used a different mounting method than my kit but he gets the credit for coming up with an innovative solution to this common problem on the V-6 Fiero.

Using this kit will eliminate the need to over tighten the alternator thus greatly reducing the wear on the alternator and water pump and increasing their service life. Also eliminated is the need to over tighten the bolt for the alternator adjustments which leads to the failure of the aluminum alternator bracket. Belt slippage is eliminated with even moderate belt tightness reducing wear on other components driven by the belt.

Replacement parts:

Idler pulley - Dayco 89007 or equivalent

Standard serpentine belt - Dayco 5050470 or equivalent

Power pulley serpentine belt - Dayco 5050440 or equivalent

You may also want to consider the reinforcement plate for the alternator bracket. This bracket greatly reduces the pressure on the factory alternator bracket and in some cases can be used to hold a slightly broken alternator bracket together.

NOTE: I now have them to fit engines with the Crank Power Pulleys.  If you have an aluminum power pulley on your V-6 crankshaft order the power pulley kit and the belt will be shorter to work with your power pulley. Select power pulley from the order box below if you already have the aluminum power pulley on your engine.

If you would like to upgrade to a power pulley on your V-6 Fiero see my other power pulley web pages below for complete power pulley and idler kits:

Bolt sizes:

Thru the years several have asked what the bolt lenghts are because they are missing a bolt.

Top bolt is a M10 x 75 (If need be buy an 80 mm long hex bolt and cut off 5 mm or use a few extra washers)

Bottom bolt is a M12 x 60 hex bolt

Because I use postal flat rate boxes for heavy orders there is no program that can add the proper amount of shipping to every order. So all shipping is added manually by myself after you place your order. That is explained here: Shipping added later explanation

When you place an order the shipping amount will show $0.00. Soon after you place an order you will receive an email confirmation that shows the amount of shipping that was added to your order.

Shipping:     Shipping is $10.00 (Midwest USA)

Final shipping cost is determined by weight of the item(s) and distance from Milwaukee, WI. Shipping prices quoted are for items shipped to the Midwest area in the USA. If you are ordering a single item or multiple items the total shipping price is determined after you place the order. I try to keep my shipping prices to a minimum and use Postal Flat Rate boxes whenever I can utilize them for an order.
