Rebuilding Service for the V-6 5 Speed Getrag Transmissions
There is no availability today for purchaing a rebuilt 282 Getrag Transmission for the V-6 5 speed Fiero.
The 282 Getrag was used in the 86-88 V-6 5 speed Fiero and is the most desired manual transmission for the Fiero.
Midwest Transmission in MN is the best place to have a 282 Getrag rebuilt. Midwest Transmission bought up around 600 of the NOS left over 282 Quad 4 Getrag transmissions from GM. They disassembled them and kept all the parts needed to rebuild 282 Getrags in the future. They have no cores. To have your Fiero Getrag 282 rebuilt you will need to ship them your transmission and they will rebuild it and ship it back to you.
Input bearings. This was one of the the main reasons they could not rebuild a 282 Getrag. There are no input bearings available anymore and I have no doubt they will never be reproduced. The Quad 4 Getrag transmissions they took apart for the parts have a different input bearing than the Fiero 282 Getrag. So I came up with a kit:

They will install my input bearing/seal kit in your 282 Getrag.
If you have your 282 Getrag rebuilt by Midwest Transmissions you will get back an excellent unit. They have NOS parts on hand to replace anything that needs to be replaced.

Rodney,
This transmission place you refer on your website for a getrag rebuild is excellent.
I Shipped it last week they are shipping it back this week
Fast!
Notes:
* Important note on shipping a Getrag transmission: The rare part is the bellhousing aluminum case half. To prevent it from being broken during shipping you should cut a piece of plywood slightly larger than the bellhousing and bolt the transmission to the piece of plywood. Please note: The input shaft sticks out slightly farther than the bellhousing. Cut or drill a hole in the plywood so the input shaft is in that hole. If possible it then should be put in a box for shipping.
* You should remove the throwout bearing shaft. Reinstall it when you get your transmission back. This way it is not lost. I have a tool to do that and the new seal on my web page.
As some have their 282 Getrags rebuilt by Midwest Transmission I will add information on this. If anyone has anything to add please send it to me.
