What is this 88 rear knuckle rebuilding service?

The long bolt that goes thru the two trailing arms from the cradle to the 1988 Pontiac Fiero rear knuckle is problematic from the factory. The hole is oversize from brand new and it can also be tapered on one end as it was drilled and not reamed to get a precision size hole. This allows the long bolt to move around inside this hole in the knuckle casting changing the toe in/out setting. Ed Parks and Jeremy at the Fiero Factory in Alabama pointed this out to me a few times in the last several years telling me this is a very common problem with all 1988 Fiero's. I acquired a pair of 1988 Fiero rear knuckle castings and I have looked at this off and on for the last 4-5 years wondering what is a good way to correct this. Well I finally got around to getting it done.

The fix: This is not a product I can sell as a do it yourself product. You will need to ship me your rear knuckle(s) and your long cross bolts and I will machine the knuckles and install and precision ream the steel bushings. Once reworked in this manner the long steel cross bolt will have a very close tolerance precision hole to pass thru. The holes in the casting will now just be large enough for the bolt to just pass thru on both ends with almost no play.

How to check your 88 rear knuckles. The lower trailing arms from the cradle to the knuckle will need to be removed. Reinsert the long bolt and you will be able to see how much looseness you have in your knuckle castings. Just loosening the nut on the long cross bolt will allow you to see this play in the rear knuckle casting.
