1987-1992 Firebird Headlight Motor Rebuilding Kits

 1987-1988 Headlight Rebuild Kit

  • Kit contains 6 precision machined Delrin bushings and excellent rebuilding instructions.

  • Fits right the first time! No filing or sanding needed!

Fits the 1987-1992 Firebirds. These are the GM second generation redesigned headlight motors.  They are very durable and very long lasting.

It is very rare to see a stripped gear. They are cheap and easy to rebuild when they fail!   If your headlights fail to rise (or start to rise and drop etc.) and the motors keep spinning this rebuild kit will solve your problem.  If the motor(s) don't run you may have a wiring or controller problem (rare).

If one actuator fails, the other probably isn't far behind

NOTE:  You might find you can buy these kits on eBay for less. Years ago that was OK. They were like mine. Turned from Delrin bar stock. Not anymore. They are now injection molded and no where near as strong as turned Delrin.

Note: There are no rivets to drill out when you rebuild these motor assemblies. All parts are held together with screws and bolts, and are easy to disassemble and rebuild.

Headlight side and motor gaskets are in stock now!!

The side cover gaskets are sometimes very brittle and may fall apart when the cover is removed to replace the drive pins. Order new side cover gaskets to ensure a quality rebuild! The die used was laser cut so the gaskets are very precise.

87-92 Firebird Headlight Motor   Side Gasket And Motor Gasket

I rarely see 87-92 Firebird headlight motors where the OEM plastic gear is damaged. If you need new gears click here for C4 metal gear kits.

What should you order? Typically you should order two kits with the two side gaskets. If one headlight motor is failing the other is not far behind. Typically you do not have to remove the motor part of the headlight assembly, rebuilding these headlight motors only requires you to remove the side covers.  If you are like me and like to take everything apart or want to take the motor housing off to paint you should then also order the two motor gaskets.

Small ball bearing used in these headlight motors note:

At the end of the amrature shaft, under the adjustable end play screw, is a small ball bearing. Be careful if you take the motor apart. It is very easy to loose. When putting the headlight motor back together the best way is to put a small amount of grease on the end of the shaft and put the ball bearing in the grease. That holds it in place and also provides it with some lubrication.

If you loose one I have some on hand.  $2.00 each
