1984-1986 Fiero Gas Tanks

$619.90

This product line is for sale. If someone wants to take this gas tank product line from me I am willing to sell the tank dies and all related gas tank items. Gas tank straps, T bolts, sending units. Be the Fiero gas tank king!

This IMO is an excellent opportunity to do a nice side business if you work full time or are retired.

I have one tank kit set up for the 84-86. I was going to hold on to it but I have decided to sell it.

Please note:

All my gas tanks have been sold. I have a waiting list and it is overfull. If this page is open it is because I have contacted some on the list so they can place their order. I am starting at the top of the list and working my way down. If you are on the list please wait for me to send you an email saying you can order now.

Do not order a tank if you are not on the list. I will need to delete it. Sorry. I'm not making anymore. I hope one day someone takes on this project. I'm too old now to want to keep stocking these.

For those that have an 84-86: This is the large tank and you will receive the longer straps, longer T bolts and a late style reproduction cross brace. Some 86 Fiero's have the late cross brace from the factory. If you already have the late cross brace let me know and I will remove it from your order and reduce the price accordingly.  Good used ones are fairly easy to find. You can look for one and if you do find one you will not need to buy my reproduction cross brace. Pictures are on the web page so you can see which one you have.

11.9 gallon OEM replacement gas tanks for the 1984-1986 Pontiac Fiero

The larger gas tank fits in a 84-86 using a few new parts. You will recieve longer straps and longer T bolts with your tank because the brackets on the chassis tunnel are mounted higher up on the 84-86's because the gas tank was smaller.  You also will receive an reproduction 87/88 cross brace. It is thinner than the 84-86 cross brace. Included in the kit is my reproduction 87/88 cross brace.

This is why the 84-86 tank costs more. It includes these extra parts.

The cost to make the dies to make this tank are over $28,000. I doubt I or anyone else would ever make the early small tank when the late large tank fits with some extra parts.

Here is a You tube installation video:

A Mr. Andrew Phillips did a video.

I do disagree on using the 84-86 cross brace and flipping it over. It hangs much lower. To be safe please use a 87/88 cross brace or buy my reproduction 87/88 cross brace so it is as GM engineered it. This is why I now include the 87/88 cross brace with every 84-86 tank ordered.

UPDATE:  I have been seeing some 84-86 Fiero's that have the late style cross brace from the factory. IMO this Fiero has the late style cross brace so it is OK.  If you have the late style cross brace let me know and I will remove it from your order and reduce the price accordinly.

My experience putting the large tank into a 84-86 Fiero:

I helped a Fiero owner install a 87/88 gas tank in to a 86 Fiero GT. What we found:

Basically it goes in but is kind of snug. We found you can not use the 4 clamps on the sides that hold the A/C and heater core tubes. We hammered the little upper tabs in on the bracket that these clamps attach to on the chassis. It may or may not have been necessary to do this. We pulled these four tubes downward some to get the tank up and in place. Once the tank is in place we installed the cross brace and used a few wood shims on top of the cross brace to push it upwards some. We then hand bent the straps to get them across the tank. I had to remove some of the bend at the end of the straps where the hole for the T bolt is. I used a plyers to pull the T bolts downwards. We had to also use a thin pry bar to push the tank over towards the drivers side to get the T bolts to move down. We also used the prybar to move the tank over to get the T bolts to go thru the straps. Once the nut is on and you tighten the nuts it goes in fine. We left the tubes just hanging  in place. They really have no place to go. You could put a few large HD tie wraps on them if you like.

Special note:

Todd Weikal gets all the credit for doing the work to determine this. I sent Todd the preproduction 87/88 gas tank sample and Todd did all the work to try it in the 84-86 chassis to see what it would take to make it fit. Seems all the tunnels on the 84-88 Fiero are the same. Only difference is the brackets are mounted higher up thus requiring longer straps and longer T-bolts.

Thanks Todd.

You need a 87/88 steel cross brace from a 87/88 Fiero. Good used ones are fairly easy to find.

My reproduction 87/88 brace is included in the kit.

If you already have a good used OEM GM 87/88 brace let me know and I will remove it from your order. $64.99

Which cross brace do I have? Look under your Fiero. The early brace the slots are on top and you can not see them.

On the late brace the oval slots face down and you can see them.

Reproduction 87/88 cross brace.

They are "exact" OEM reproductions of the original larger capacity 87/88 Fiero gas tanks.

Steel baffle

Insulator pads included. Glue them in place with contact cement.

Longer gas tank straps and T bolts are included:

If you install this 11.9 gallon gas tank in a 1984-1986 Fiero you will need a few extra parts that are included.  Longer straps, longer T bolts and a 87/88 steel cross brace (order separately). You can "not" use your 84-86 steel cross brace with the larger tank in your 84-86 Fiero.

Riveted like the OEM straps.

Straps are 304 stainless steel construction.

You do not need that extra small tank they used in the 87/88's. Thru the years everyone has called it an overflow tank. That extra tank in the 87/88 is not an overflow tank. It is an attempt to condensate fumes and return the liquid to the tank. Most likely never actually did that.  It is a condensate tank.

OEM high quality sending units are in stock.

If you order a tank and a sending unit I can ship both in the same box.

NOTE:  Some have told me the sending unit the Fiero Store sells may not fit as it should. The float hits the baffle tank. If you are using a Fiero Store unit you may have to bend the arm some so it does not hit the baffle.
