One common problem I see in the V-6 4 speeds is the select lever roller on the shifter gets gummed up. It makes it very hard to shift into reverse.

It can be removed, cleaned up and reinstalled.

Remove the C clip	Push the shaft to the right	Grab the spring

Move the spring left and up	Moved	Remove the bracket and spring

Drill out the top rivet. Use a 3.2 or 1/8" drill bit. Then drill to 4.2 mm	Drill out the side rivets. Use a 3.2 or 1/8" drill bit	Lever removed

Tap to M5 x .8	Grind the pins on one side	Knock out the pins

Disassemblied	New bolts, washer and nuts installed	Cut the steel back 5 mm

Install the lever using the tapped plate and Allen head screws	Install the rubber ring. One shifter I have was missing this	Install the 5 mm hex bolt and large flat washer
