This is what I have. To me it looks terrible. I wonder if they made that boxed out area around the vent as an after thought or was it part of the original house plans? With out it it looks very plain like my north side shown below.

 

 

I had the idea I would extend the whole top out maybe 6" above the large panels. But then it will look like my north side as shown below. Very plain looking.  (PS). Some of the boards were added years ago to cover up rotted Masonite. Using Cement panels and Mirtek.

 

So what to do?? I hate the look of this but what else could I do?

I'm thinking I'll probably redo it and leave it as it is.  :(

 

 

 

This is my north end. Looks very plain. I made a topper for the gable vent. Inverted V about 5 inches tall and same width as the trim above the vent. Not installed yet. Should help a little. This side of the house does not get looked at much and will be OK. I could double up on the inverted V to give it more depth. I'll try that.
