Out of stock for the moment.
I hope to make a new design kit that is much easier to install this winter.
I've been very busy with many other things these days.
UPDATE 12-15-18: I have made some progress. I hope get this new kit finished sometime in early 2019. I'll also be looking for one or two 84-86 Fiero owners to stop in here when I have these ready and we will install this new kit so I can take some pictures etc. It will be quite a bit easier to install.
Upgrade your 84-86 headlight motor lift system to my "All in one" headlight motor controller kit.
You can no longer find new isolation relays. So I have developed a kit to replace the relays and the isolation relay all in one sealed unit.
Some history of the 84-86 headlights:
Most that have headlight motor problems in their 84-86 Fiero want to blame the headlight motors. They replace them with rebuilt headlight motors but many times still experience the same problems. Some replace the relays but again still have the same problems. Why? The problem in most all cases is a diminished path for the voltage and amperage from the battery reaching the armature of the headlight motors. The armature is spring loaded and if it does not spin with enough strength and momentum it will not operate the contacts in the headlight motors correctly.
The path for the voltage from the battery and back (all the grounds) is a long one. As on any older vehicle, time takes it's toll on the wiring connections, grounds etc. There is never any one place to look. It starts at the battery terminal and little by little the voltage and amperage diminishes along the way. Slightly corroded connections in all the various connectors. Corroded grounds. Every marginal connection diminishes the voltage and amperage to the headlight motor armatures. By the time the voltage gets to the armatures in the headlight motors it can be seriously diminished.
How can the voltage make it to the headlight motors when they have to pass thru connections like this!!
The kit eliminates many of these marginal connections. You remove the isolation relay and the relays on each headlight bucket. My controller unit splices in to the wires from the factory wiring harness. I include butt splices with open centers so you can solder them and adhesive lined shrink tube to make solid water tight connections. My headlight motor controller unit is potted in a plastic box making it waterproof. My controller unit also has two ground wires coming out of it to insure an excellent ground. You splice on the new connectors to each headlight motor, again using butt splices and adhesive lined shrink tube. Once installed the largest part of the headlight control system is now all new and waterproof. Also incorporated into this new relay controller unit are snubbers for each headlight motor. What does a snubber do? It absorbs the arc you get every time the relays open thus reducing the degradation on the contacts in each headlight motor and the relays in my new unit.
This single unit replaces all three of the OEM relays (including the isolation relay).
|Potted and completely waterproof.
Every unit is tested in my test device before it is shipped.
I drove down to Chicago in the spring of 2017 and installed the first kit kit in a 84 Indy. It went in very well. Overall the installation was not too difficult. A link to a Utube video is below. He tells me his headlights have never been that fast, smooth and quiet. :)
This new controller mounts on the drivers side headlight bucket with a steel bracket (included in the kit) where the old relay used to be.
|Included in the kit is a tool to use to raise and lower the headlight bucket as you work on it.
The kit includes all new water tight connectors. High temp split wire loom, Packet of dielectric connector grease, butt splices (with the open center so you can crimp and solder them), adhesive lined shrink tubing, hex sheet metal screws, solder, the special tool etc. This is a complete kit.
- Wire stripper/crimper
- Heat gun
- Wire cutter
- Soldering iron (40 watt is preferred)
- Socket set
- Reversable variable speed hand drill (cordless preferred)
Included with the kit is a step by step five page instruction sheet. Use both the paper instruction sheets and this installation web page below to install this kit.

Took a long time to get to this point:
This upgrade kit does both headlight motors. You only need to order one kit per car.
A few days ago a local Fiero owner stopped in and we put a system in his 85 Fiero. This was my fifth installation of this system. Every time I installed a system I found new concerns on how to do the installation. After doing this fifth installation I now have it all down pat. This fifth installation was excellent. My installation page is now up to date. Over time some who install this system may have some suggestions/tips and I'll possibly make some changes/additions to it.
It takes a bit of time and effort to install this system but if you take your time and follow the paper instructions and my installation web page it is not that hard to do. I would say the key to doing a good job is taking the time to understand what you are doing in that step at that moment before you do that step. Do not try to do this installation in a hurry. Then move on to the next step.

Shipping: Shipping is $8.00 (Midwest USA)
Shipping to areas outside of the USA: Generally I ship postal air first class mail. Shipping varies depending on what country they are going to. It ranges from $16.50 to Canada to $24.00 or more to Australia etc.
I do not offer free shipping.
Because I use postal flat rate boxes for heavy orders there is no program that can add the proper amount of shipping to every order. So all shipping is added manually by myself after you place your order. That is explained here: Shipping added later explanation
When you place an order the shipping amount will show $0.00. Soon after you place an order you will receive an email confirmation that shows the amount of shipping that was added to your order.
