Headlight Gears:

aluminum Gear

(Hard Anodized Aluminum shown)

Replacement precision CNC machined hard anodized aluminum headlight gears for the 1984-1986 Pontiac Fiero and the 1982-1986 Firebird. Each new CNC machined hard anodized aluminum replacement gear includes 4 Viton rubber bumpers.

These Viton rubber bumpers are a much more durable replacement for the OEM green polyurethane bumpers which had a high failure rate. Includes 8 screws and nuts to reassemble the case.  Includes a packet of high temperature grease.

Rebuilding instructions included.

One gear, and 4 bumpers are needed per headlight motor.

Special note: 1982-1986 Pontiac Firebirds (some or all) used plastic intermediate gears like the one pictured. If you have this type of headlight motor it was originally from a Pontiac Firebird.  The parts do not interchange, the gear is different. No one offers a replacement steel intermediate gear at this time and possibly never will as it would be very difficult to manufacture.  If you can find a used metal intermediate gear you can use my aluminum gear in your headlight motor. This will allow you to use the hard aluminum gear I offer in your Firebird headlight motor. Get on the Fiero Forum. www.fiero.com  Post in the Mall. Some there may have a good used intermediate gear for sale. You will not know what type of gear is in your headlight motor until you open it up.

84-86 headlight motor rebuild kit w/o gear:

If your headlight gear is not stripped you can use this kit to rebuild your headlight motor. This kit includes 4 new rubber bumpers (the originals generally are reduced to small bits and pieces). Screws and nuts to replace the rivets you will drill out to open the motor housing and a packet of high temperature grease.  Includes step by step rebuilding instructions and a 4 page trouble shooting copy set.

GM motor assembly numbers:     Driver's side: 22039672    Passenger side: 22039673

Consider a crank tool to raise and lower the headlight buckets when you work on these headlight motors:

CAUTION:  There are now aftermarket plastic headlight motor gears available. They are very weak compared to the GM original headlight motor plastic gears:
